Power forward Blake Griffin hasn’t been as healthy as the Pistons hoped when they made a big move to acquire him in a trade with the Clippers back in the middle of the 2017-18 season.
Instead, it’s been hit or miss and the Pistons have suffered because of it — though through no fault of Griffin himself.
At 31 years old, Griffin is likely entering the downside of his career, and it’s hard to know if he and the Pistons will ever be fit. He discussed that and more in an interview with Suppan Deb of The New York Times, and you can read some of the highlights below.
On not helping the Pistons turn into a regular winner:
“The individual awards and these things are fine, and I’m appreciative of them, but I just want to win. Not making it to a conference final, yeah, it does gnaw at me. Not to the point where I’m losing sleep over it. But that’s the main goal — I want to win.”
On the possibility of becoming a free agent after the season:
“It’s not a decision that I have to make in the immediate future. And I know, I’m sorry, I’m just kind of running around that question, but it’s just true. Things can change.”
On how his athleticism today compared to when he dunked over a Kia in the Slam Dunk competition:
“Yeah, I think I can clear the hood still. But I don’t know that I’m willing to try it now.”
