It appears Kelan Martin is getting noticed at Indiana Pacers training camp.
“The players come up to me and mention his name and they like what he brings to this team,” Pacers coach Nate Bjorkgren told reporters. “He’s been shooting the ball very well. He’s been doing everything that I’ve asked him — pressuring the ball, playing multiple positions and guarding multiple positions. He’s very coachable and he’s a very good person. The guys enjoy playing with him.”
Martin is 6-foot-5 went undrafted in 2018. He played his college ball at Butler in Indianapolis. So Indiana basketball fans know him well.
He agreed to a two-year contract with the Pacers in November. The Pacers are expected to send the Fort Wayne Made Ants to the G League bubble next month, so Martin should get plenty of run there.
“Honestly, it’s a blessing to be in the position I’m in.” he said. “Everything works out for a reason. I just kept faith in myself, praying for times like this. This is a once-in-a-lifetime situation. This doesn’t happen every day. I’m just blessed to be here.”
Martin spent the 2018-19 playing in Germany, then signed a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves before the start of last season. He appeared in 31 games with the Timberwolves and averaged 6.4 points. He also spent time with the Iowa Wolves of the G-League.
