Earlier in the year, it appeared that Cleveland could be one of the more active teams ahead of the 2024 trade deadline with rumors of Donovan Mitchell‘s future being in doubt.
Yet, with the team finding success on the court, multiple reports this week indicated that the Cavs may not be too noisy at the deadline.
If Cleveland does make a trade of any significance, Isaac Okoro would be the player who would likely be on the move. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Kniicks are among the teams that have interest in the former No. 5 overall pick. The Hawks, Pacers, Suns, and Bucks also are monitoring Okoro.
Scotto hears from a rival GM that Okoro, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, could command $14 million annually in his next deal. The scribe adds that Okoro’s anticipated future contract will play a role in Cleveland’s strategy.
In order to retain Okoro and keep the rest of their roster intact, the Cavaliers now have to consider their appetite for going into the tax for the 2024-25 season amid uncertainty surrounding Mitchell’s long-term future in Cleveland.
With that in mind, Okoro is expected to draw interest at the trade deadline. The Knicks, Hawks, Pacers, Suns and Bucks are all teams to closely monitor as all are known to have interest in acquiring a two-way wing, league sources told HoopsHype.
