The Milwaukee Bucks are at a major crossroads. That’s one reason why they traded with the New Orleans Pelicans for veteran guard Jrue Holiday. They want to win big now.
Back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo is in the final year of his contract. So is Holiday. Antetokounmpo is eligible for a supermax extension if he stays with the Bucks. Holiday will be eligible for a four-year, $135 million extension in February, per ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Holiday spoke about his future with Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Haynes asked if Holiday is open to a future in Milwaukee beyond this season.
“We’re for sure open to it. Again, I’m about winning, and this franchise over the past few years, they have been doing a very good job of that,” Holiday said on Haynes’ Posted Up podcast. “Man, I’m really trying to win, to be completely honest. I’m trying to put banners up there, put a ring on my finger, and I’m trying to have fun doing it. This really seems like it could be the place for that.”
The Bucks have finished with the NBA’s best regular-season record in each of the past two seasons. Antetokounmpo has been league MVP both times. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year last year.
But it hasn’t resulted in any trips to the Finals.
The Bucks are counting on another year of experience, and the addition of Holiday, to help change all that.
