Superstar forward LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a two-year contract maximum extension worth $85 million, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
James initially signed a four-year deal with the Lakers in 2018. The extension will carry him through the 2023 season.
He will turn 36 years old this month, so that means James will remain with the Lakers until he closes in on 40, if he so chooses.
He certainly showed no signs of slowing down last season, when he and Anthony Davis led the Lakers to their first championship in a decade. Both James and Davis are among several Lakers represented by Rich Paul, a Cleveland native.
The Lakers opened training camp Tuesday, with the NBA season set to tip off Dec. 22.
James averaged 25.3 points, 10.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds during the regular season in 2019-20. He compiled averages of 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 8.8 assists in 21 playofff games.
