The Golden State Warriors are among the teams that have put in a call to the Houston Rockets about All-Star scoring machine James Harden, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
“I think you had several teams inquire,” Charania said on the Complex Load Management podcast. “The Warriors, at one point, made a call for James Harden.”
Both Harden and backcourt-mate Russell Westbrook reportedly want out of Houston. Former general manager Daryl Morey and ex-coach Mike D’Antoni already left after the season. Those two have been replaced by Rafael Stone and Stephen Silas, respectively.
So it’s a whole new day in Houston. Apparently, for whatever reason, it’s not a day the star guards want any part of.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are trying to return to contention after finishing with the league’s worst record last season. They were expected to be heading in that direction with the returns of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson from injuries. But then Thompson tore his Achilles and will miss another year.
The Warriors still have Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and the recently acquired Kelly Oubre Jr. Not bad, but probably not enough to get out of the West.
The Harden call was before the injury to Thompson, Charania noted. It may be time to revisit it.
