Free agent shooting guard Damyean Dotson has agreed to a contract with the Cavaliers, agent Chris Gaston told ESPN.
The deal is reportedly for two years and $4 million.
Dotson, 26, is 6-foot-5 and appeared in 48 games with the Knicks last season, averaging 6.7 points on 41 percent shooting. Originally a second-round pick (No. 44 overall) out of Houston in 2017, Dotson has spent his entire three-year career with the Knicks.
His main claim to fame is being one of less than a dozen players to have appeared in an NBA and G-League game on the same day. That happened in November 2017. He scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds against the Miami Heat in April 2018.
“Daymean is a true professional on and off the court,” Aaron Miller, who organizes games in Houston for NBA players, recently told SI.com. “It has been an honor to work with him and play a role in his player development process.”
Dotson is a strong complementary player and can keep defenses honest with his still developing range. He also has been determined at the defensive end.
After a quiet start to free agency, Cavaliers general manager Koby Altman has now orchestrated a trade for veteran Los Angeles Lakers center JaVale McGee and signed Dotson.
The Cavs are also bringing three rookies to training camp, including lottery pick Isaac Okoro, a small forward from Auburn. Undrafted Penn State guard Lamar Stevens was also signed to a two-way contract, and former Michigan shooting guard Charles Matthews reportedly received an Exhibit 10 camp deal.
