Isaac Okoro became a member of the Cavaliers when they drafted him Wednesday night, but now it’s official.
That’s because Okoro has signed his rookie contract with the Cavs, general manager Koby Altman said in a statement Saturday.
Okoro is a 6-foot-6 forward/guard out of Auburn, selected with the No. 5 overall pick.
He spent one season with the Tigers, appearing in all 28 games and averaging 12.8 points on 51 percent shooting.
He also collected 4.4 rebounds in joining the likes of Anthony Davis (Kentucky, LA Lakers) and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (also Kentucky) as one of six freshman in SEC history to be named to the All-Conference Team, All-Defensive Team and All-Freshman Team in the same season.
All this while maintaining a 3.5 GPA at Auburn.
Contracts for No. 5 overall picks generally start in the $4.4 million range and are for three years. The Cavs did not release terms.
Okoro will wear No. 35 with the Cavs.
