The Indiana Pacers are hiring Greg Foster as an assistant coach to Nate Bjorkgren.
Foster most recently served as an assistant under Atlanta Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce.
“On behalf of our coaching staff and our players, I want to thank Greg for his work the past two seasons,” Pierce said in a statement. “He was one of the first people I reached out to when I got the job in Atlanta to join my staff and he’s proven himself to be an up and coming coach. We will miss G, Victoria and the Foster family, but this is a great opportunity for him to take the next step in his coaching career. We wish him the best.”
Foster is a former NBA center and has also been an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.
In other coaching moves:
1. The Sacramento Kings are hiring veteran assistant Rex Kalamian to Luke Walton‘s coaching staff, per the team. Kalamian spent the previous two seasons with Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Clippers. This will actually be Kalamian’s second stint with the Kings. He also was an assistant under Reggie Theus from 2007-09.
2. John Lucas will remain with the Houston Rockets, but with a new title. He is moving from director of player development under Mike D’Antoni to lead assistant under new coach Stephen Silas. See what Lucas has to say about it at this link.
3. New Orleans Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy, hired last month, intends to hang on to assistant Fred Vinson, according to Andrew Lopez of ESPN. Van Gundy is expected to fill out the rest of the coaching staff next week, Lopez reported.
