The Pelicans parted ways with head coach Stan Van Gundy after one season, but it seems like their mediocre 31-41 record wasn’t the only reason why.
Van Gundy’s concern was more on the X’s and O’s rather than developing meaningful relationships with his players, which was a complete opposite from Alvin Gentry’s style, according to Christian Clark of nola.com,
“It was definitely different,” Josh Hart said. “It wasn’t the easiest transition.”
The article goes on to talk about his strained relationships with Brandon Ingram and Eric Bledsoe, as both guys seemingly had trouble getting on the same page as their head coach.

Luka Doncic is “upset” about Nelson’s departure from the organization, according to Marc Spears of The Undefeated. Doncic and Nelson are “really close.” It will be interesting to see how Doncic approaches his future, as he’s still yet to hit unrestricted free agency.
