The Cleveland Cavaliers delivered a huge statement performance on the road in game 7. The Cavaliers dismantled the top-seeded Detroit Pistons 125-94 to advance to the NBA’s Eastern Conference Finals. Donovan Mitchell led the way with 26 points and 8 assists, while Jarrett Allen and Sam Merrill each dropped 23 points as the Cavs pulled away decisively to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2018.
Cleveland jumped out to a lead quickly and never looked back. They outscored Detroit 31-22 in the first quarter and built a commanding lead. They shot 51% from the field while holding the Pistons to just 35%. The Cavaliers turned what could have been a tense elimination game into an absolute blowout. This marked one of the most lopsided Game 7 road wins in recent NBA history.

Donovan Mitchell was electric, particularly in the third quarter where he scored 15 of his 26 points to bury any hopes of a Pistons comeback. He finished with 26 points on 10-for-22 shooting. Mitchell also grabbed six rebounds and dished out eight assists. Mitchell played with a lot of poise. He made big plays by attacking the paint and setting up his bigs as well to propel the Cavaliers to a Game 7 victory.
Jarrett Allen continued his Game 7 dominance, posting 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting. He also grabbed 7 rebounds. Allen was a force in the paint, finishing at the rim and controlling the glass alongside Evan Mobley. His efficiency and physicality overwhelmed Detroit’s frontcourt.
Sam Merrill provided a huge spark off the bench with 23 points, including 5 threes (7-10 FG, 5-8 from deep). His hot shooting stretched the floor and punished the Pistons’ defense. He helped stretch the Cavaliers lead throughout the contest.
Evan Mobley rounded out the big three with a strong game. Mobley scored 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 6 assists. His versatility on both ends helped the Cavs dominate the paint and control the tempo.
The Cavaliers’ balanced attack and defensive intensity were too much for Detroit. Owner Dan Gilbert even sent 25 buses of fans to pack the arena in support. This created a somewhat less hostile road environment that fueled the blowout. Having your own fans in the arena for a road playoff game makes a huge difference.
